Rest/Knee Injury

Postby Dustin Whitlock » Wed May 24, 2017 9:10 am

I'm about 9 weeks from my first competition and I have just aggravated an old injury in my knee. Would it be beneficially to take a week off of training to rehab the knee and come back fully healed or fight through the pain and keep training? TIA

I don't think you should ever fight through the pain on a major injury as things don't just go away.

First you need to diagnose the problem and come up with a game plan.

As far as training do what you can for now that doesn't bother the knee while you rehab it (seated pressing, etc)

I've had some good success with omitting squats from clients programs for a bit while we do some rehab work on knees.

Also remember there is always another contest.

A week likely isnt going to solve it by itself.

What are you already doing to address the injury? Rolling the calf and quad? Equiblock? ART? NSAIDs? Long, light backwards sled drags to pump the muscles around your knee full of blood?

Some of these are stupid meathead ideas and some maybe exactly what you need to not only continue training, but also address the root cause of the issue
