Keg Toss or Highlands Games Stanchions/bar

Postby slickwick » Thu Feb 16, 2017 4:40 pm

Looking to make some sort of pop up bar for doing keg toss to practice for an upcoming competition. Also have some team members interested in highlands games that need to practice weight over bar.

I've been searching around the internet but haven't found much luck for a good DIY way to make something to throw stuff over. Does anyone have any experience with this or any recommendations? If not maybe I will end up being the guinea pig for building something from scratch.

Look forward to any helpful feedback you may have!

I used the galvanized dog kennel steel in 2 inch for mine. I am working on a free standing one for an indoor game I have coming up

You're gonna love this throw back video of the setup..

a better solution would be to put a smaller size pipe in the uprights as a sleeve and drill holes every foot or 6 inches to adjust the height

I will spare the form critique but what I have planned is a rectangle tubed base with 24 foot uprights and a crossbar pulled up on pulleys. I will run ropes down to tie off and stabilize it. The world in wob is under 20 feet so it will work fine
I am expecting my crew to stay under 17

Thanks guys, giving me some good ideas.

I think because I'll only be using it near my house so transportation isn't much of an issue I may go to 2x4 + pipe route for now. Down the road I can weld up something cooler. Will post up once I have my monstrosity built.

Got inspired and got to work yesterday.

Used some 2x4s to make the uprights, 8' pieces with 1' of overlap to make the uprights 15' high. Used 4x4s to make the bases sandwiching the uprights. Drilled 1-1/4" holes at 15' and 12' in the uprights for men's and women's height. 10' long Galvanized pipe through the upright holes capped off with pipe caps. Ended up being really easy to put together and break down! Here are some photos
